1975 ve 1976 yılları arasında meşhur İtalyan tasarımcı Giorgetto Guigaro tarafından tasarlanan çelik gövdeli, kanat şeklinde açılan kapıları olan, ilk hava yastığına ve katalitik çeviriciye sahip 130 bg güçlük 2.8 litre V6 Alpine-Renault motora sahip, Şasisi Lotus tarafından hazırlanan DMC-12 modelini üretti. İlk olarak 1977 yılında showroomları süsleyen araç üretilbilmesi için gerekli maddiyatı sağlamak için 5000$ depozit ile kendine alıcı bulmaya başlamıştı. Kuzey İrlanda'nın Dunmurry kasabasında Britanya hükümetinden 55 milyon dolar kredi alarak fabrikasını kuran DeLorean aracı 1981 senesinde satışa sunmaya başladı. İlk aylarda çok iyi satışlar yapan araçta ortaya çıkan çelik gövdeden doğan ağırlık, düşük performans, hava yastığı sorunları, kapıların tam olarak açılamaması gibi sorunlar aracın fiyatını 26.000 $'dan 12.000 $'a çekmişti. 2. ve 3. senelerde satışların dahada düşmesi yüzünden son kozlarını oynayan DeLorean 1983 yılında aracın üretimi arttırdı, 100'lerce araç fabrikanın bahçesinde yatmaktaydı. 1985 yılında iyice borç içine giren firma iflasın eşiğine gelmişti, Dunmurry fabrikası kapandı, makinalar açık arttırmayla satıldı ve 2.600 çalışan işsiz kaldı. 1986 yılında kokain kaçakçılığı suçlaması ile FBI tarafından yakalanan DeLorean temize çıkmasına karşın tüm şöhretini yıpratmıştı, üretmeyi düşündüğü 4 kapılı DMC, DMC minivan ve DMC DUV modelleri rafa kaldırıldı. Saf çelikten ürettiği araç ile otomobil tarihine adını yazdıran DeLorean belki bütün hayallerini gerçeğe çeviremedi ama Geleceğe Dönüş filmi ile araç bütün otomobilseverlerin gönlünü kazanmayı başardı.

Gecen aydi galiba yaklasik 80 yaslarinda bir amcayi deloreona binerken gordum . Kosarak gittim yanina satilikmi diye sordum ama yuzume bakmadan cekti gitti :) 20 kusur yillik model olmasina ragmen hala cekici hala etkileyici .

1230 kg - 130 hp , çokta ağır değilmiş aslında motor hacim olarak çok büyük ama güç yok, yinede zamanına göre iyi gidiyordur bence :) Görsel olarak gerçekten çok güzel bu arada :)
