JCW version in the works.
A week ago we’ve showed you the first leaked photos of the MINI Paceman and now BMW has decided to reveal the car. It’s characterized as being the world’s first Sports Activity Coupe in the premium small and compact vehicle segment, expanding the MINI lineup to a total of seven models.
As far as the design is concerned, it features a hexagonal front radiator grille with chrome surround, a downward-sloping roofline, muscular flared wheel arches and the coupe-like stretched side profile with long doors. Inside the cabin there’s the horizontally structured instrument panel, a big circular Centre Speedo and full-size individual seats for the rear passengers.
The 2013 MINI Paceman will be offered with a choice of two gasoline and two diesel engines, with output varying from 112 hp (82 kW) to 184 hp (135 kW). A hotter JCW version is under development, while all the versions will be offered as standard with a 6-speed manual gearbox or an optional 6-speed automatic transmission. The MINI Cooper S Paceman, Cooper SD Paceman and the Cooper D Paceman will be available with the MINI ALL4 all-wheel-drive system.
The MINI Cooper Paceman is motivated by a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with 122 hp (90 kW) and 118 lb-ft (160 Nm) of torque, enough for a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 10.4 seconds (11.5 seconds with the automatic) and a top speed of 119 mph (192 km/h). The hotter Cooper S Paceman has the same engine but it’s tuned to output 184 hp (135 kW) and 177 lb-ft (240 Nm) with an overboost function that increases torque to 192 lb-ft (260 Nm). The car does the 0-62 mph sprint in 7.5 seconds with the manual and in 7.8 seconds with the automatic, en route to a top speed of 135 mph (217 km/h).
The 2.0-liter diesel engine inside the MINI Cooper SD Paceman generates 143 hp (105 kW) and 225 lb-ft (305 Nm) of torque, allowing the car to perform the 0-62 mph sprint in 9.2 seconds (9.4 seconds with automatic), before hitting a top speed of 124 mph (200 km/h). This model consumes 4.4 liters / 100 km (64.2 mpg imp) and has CO2 emissions of 115 g/km.
As for the MINI Cooper D Paceman, this gets a smaller 1.6-liter diesel with 112 hp (82 kW) and 199 lb-ft (270 Nm). If the client opts for an automatic transmission, the displacement is raised to 2.0 liters. It can do the 0-62 mph sprint in 10.8 seconds (11.2 seconds with automatic) on its way to a top speed of 116 mph (187 km/h). The vehicle has a fuel consumption of 4.4 liters / 100 km (64.2 mpg imp) and CO2 emissions of 115 g/km.
