Jaguar Land Rover has introduced a self-learning system that will offer a personalized driving experience for each individual owner.
According to the company, the system uses the "latest machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques" to recognize the driver and learn their preferences and driving style. JLR goes on to say the system will factor in your calendar, traffic conditions, the time of day and the weather to predict your driving behavior to help you focus on the task at hand.
The system will use a smartphone to recognize the driver and will automatically adjust the mirrors, steering wheel and seat to their preferred location by the time the driver opens the door. The car will also adjust the temperature according to weather conditions and will review your schedule to set your destination into the GPS system while factoring in traffic conditions to avoid congestion. If you usually call your wife on your way to work, the system will recognize this and offer to make the call on future trips. Along the same lines, if you're running late to an appointment the car will offer to option to call or e-mail them to inform them that you're running late.
While driving, the system will adjust the Auto Adaptive Cruise Control setting to the driver's preferences so the following distance and acceleration profile suits the driver's tastes.
According to JLR Director of Research and Technology Dr Wolfgang Epple, "The aim of our self-learning technology is to minimize driver distraction, which will help reduce the risk of accidents. Presenting the driver with information just at the right time whilst driving will reduce both cognitive distraction and the need for the driver to look away from the road to scroll through phone lists, or adjust mirrors, temperature or seat functions while on the road."
