James McHugh’s 1995 240SX is what we’d like to car borderline perfect for a daily driver. McHugh took a decade plus old chassis and revamped it to his liking, outfitting it with plenty of go-fast parts and visual upgrades. The end result is an S14 that’s clean on the outside, inside and packs plenty of boost underneath the hood. We were jealous to hear that this S14 not only received the coveted SR20DET swap, but McHugh took the initiative to build the bottom end as well. Wiseco low compression pistons teamed up with Eagle I-Beam rods to give James the reliability he needed as he got ready to swap in a GReddy T67-25G turbo along with plenty of headwork goods from HKS. Their 272 step 2 cams, cam gears, valve springs and rocker arm stoppers made James’ S14 a whole new animal. Plenty of fuel is now dumped into the motor thanks to a Tomei fuel rail adapter, SARD 850cc injectors and a Slick Motorsports twin Walbro fuel pump. In case you couldn’t hear the shrill of the GReddy Type-R blow off valve, it’s no mistaken that this S14 means business with the mincing Type-R intercooler mounted behind the Version Select front bumper.

Helping to get all the power to the ground, James contacted the great guys at Mazworx for their 300ZX transmission kit. With a Z32 300ZX transmission mated to his fully built SR20DET, the Exedy x2 Plate Clutch has no problems getting each and every one of those ponies to the ground.

Handling suspension duties is a collection of TEIN, Tanabe and Cusco goods. Flex Master coilovers handle the majority of the duties on all four corners while TEIN torsion rods, steering rods, Tanabe rear drift control arms help give James the adjustability he needs to dial in all aspects of his suspension. A front lower brace as well as a Megan rear sub-frame brace and Nismo bushings keeps this chassis extremely stiff. In the engine bay a Cusco Type-OS front strut bar can be seen. Brake wise Z32 front calipers along with I-Rotor slotted and cross drilled rotors can be seen in the front. In the rear are Brembo rear rotors. Hawk HPS brake pads are slammed between all the calipers.

James’ S14 rolls around on aggressive 17x9/17x10 5Zigen FN01R-C wheels wrapped with Nitto’s NT-01 rubber. Inside the cockpit of the car are mild upgrades with a trio of GReddy gauges displaying EGT, Oil Pressure and Fuel pressure. A Sparco steering wheel along with a Nismo shift knob replace the stock, boring pieces.

Along with the full Version Select body kit, James also opted to swap on a JDM S14 grill, turn signals, a Rotora Carbon GT Wing and Sparco hood pins. The brilliant red paint really makes this S14 a visual masterpiece.
