SSP 500whp DSG with HPA Stage 4 Custom Software - an update after 10000km:
An oversight perhaps in the build thread, but having received numerous emails / PM's on the nature of the DSG, I have now finally managed to summarise the components and performance after 10000km (the car has now driven only 18+k since new, just over 1 year ago).
Components:
1. SSP 500whp clutch pack
2. Viton Seals
3. ProGold DSG fluid
4. HPA Stage 4 Custom file
Cost:
The total cost, including installation, was around ~AUD5000
Installation:
Completed in Melbourne by A & B Automatic transmissions (Dandenong)
Performance:
There were issues with slippage for the first 1000-1500km, which completely resolved after following prescribed break-in period; this necessitated a re-set via VCDS, followed by a driving programme over 2-3 hours to allow adaptation to occur. The car has been to the dyno on numerous occasions - once only with the GTX now fully installed - and to the track on numerous occasions, and from the 1500km mark, it has been flawless.
Some of you will re-call that TEFF initially installed the 600whp Kevlar DSG kit, and even with revision, could not make his clutch function at all well. Others have reported similar issues with the Kevlar DSG clutch packs, for which no obvious cause could be found.
I learned during my prolonged adaptation process that a leak from the Viton seal (for the clutch baskets) was the most common cause for slippage and non-function. I had initailly thought my clutch installation was also flawed, but with time and patience, the the initial concerns vanished completely. It has been rock solid ever since, with no slippage whatsoever, and no oft-reported false-neutrals. Long may it last
Would I recommend the SSP product:
Absolutely YES. The custom software file from HPA to remap LC and remove RPM limit have helped this car reach it's potential. For the record, LC is now set at 4800, and max RPM is 8070RPM.
